And when you don’t pay attention to yourself, to all the bits of you that make you the amazing person you are, you get unsettled, grumpy, p’d off with life.

Maybe you’ve heard of Mindfulness but don’t fancy sitting cross-legged for half an hour keeping your mind totally empty – good! That to me isn’t Mindfulness. I practice Mindfulness many times during the day, I am doing it right now as I type this…to me it is being 100% involved in the moment, in the task you are doing, even if that task is doing nothing.
As you can see, I was recording and doing my Mindfulness practice in my second ‘office’ in the field, sitting on the grass in the sunshine. You too can do it anywhere, no need to be able to get those legs crossed either!

I got into brain training many years ago as a way of helping me overcome anxiety and self-doubt, specifically in relation to my time with my horse. Part of me would be excited about doing stuff with the horse, another part of me was terrified. It was like having two versions of me inside my head!
Understanding that the brain is not just one human thinking brain, but that it has irrational mammalian and reptilian parts to it made a huge difference to me and has done the same for so many of my clients. This is a very simplistic explanation of how the brain is put together and which part of it is responsible for the irrational reactions we sometimes have. There’s also some tips on how to deal with the responses so that the real, thinking you can have fun!

We all have key strengths, mine are: Strategic, Empathetic, Learner, Achiever, Futuristic
If we involve those strengths in our plans and schemes, we are more likely to achieve our goals. However, there are times when we also have to suck it up and do things we don’t excel at, or the more sensible option, ask for help from those who have the skill set we don’t.
What are your strengths? Do you employ them every day? Or do you focus more on trying to improve the things you are not so hot at?

Is being honest about having a non-strength different to negative self-talk? Will it harm your self-esteem and confidence to acknowledge that you have areas of resistance, things you repeatedly bump up against, such as finances or relationships?
During a business planning webinar I shared my thoughts that I know when money is to be discussed I bump into a version of me that hesitates to get into it; I was interested in the response of the chap leading the call…
Oh, and I think I have realised that my older sister must have been pinching my pocket money for years!

You worry about stuff, don’t you? Let it eat you up for days at a time. Sometimes it can’t be helped but sometimes in can. It is human to worry, but we need to learn how to worry more efficiently.
The same goes with wallowing around in a bad mood. We all have bad moods, get in a funk, feel fed up and that is allowed and perfectly acceptable – but with certain caveats!
